37th Annual Mobile Arc Mardi Gras Parade

Who:Mobile Arc, a non-profit founded in 1956 that provides services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will hold its 37th Annual “Reveling Cavaliers” Mardi Gras Parade on Thursday, February 28, 1pm at the Gordon Smith Center. The theme is “All About the Holidays.”

Mobile Arc is the largest agency in the county serving people of all ages who have disabilities such as autistic spectrum disorders, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and learning disabilities. Since 1956, Mobile Arc has advocated social inclusion for individuals with disabilities because of benefits to the individual and to the entire community.

What:The parade consists of floats from different non-profits that assist in providing support and services to people with developmental disabilities. It is open to the community. Special guests include: Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson, WKRG Evening Anchors Mel Showers and Rose Ann Haven, WPMI Morning Anchor Darwin Singleton, the Azalea Trail Maids, Murphy High School Band and Cheerleaders, UMS-Wright Band and others.

Float Judging begins at 12 pm. Judges include: Shelby Mitchell (95 KSJ), Jill Chenoweth (United Way of Southwest Alabama), Hoppum (Order of Many Faces), Lucy Gafford (Mobile Arts Council), and Allison Schaub (Alabama Contemporary Arts Center)

When:Thursday, February 28, 2019, 1 pm (parade line-up begins at 12 pm)

               Rain Date: Friday, March 1, 1 pm

Why:Founded in 1983, the parade gives people with developmental disabilities the opportunity to experience and celebrate Mardi Gras alongside their Mobile neighbors and boosts awareness for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
