Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa reportedly rejected an extension offer ahead of attending, but sitting out of organized team activities.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini confirmed that Tagovailoa was "in the building for the start of Dolphins OTAs," citing a source with knowledge of the situation, following ESPN's Jeremy Fowler's prior report that the former No. 5 overall pick had rejected a previous extension offer.

"Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is in the building for the start of Dolphins OTAs, per source. The QB is slated to become the next quarterback to receive a big payday, but the sides are in negotiations. Tagovailoa said he was planning on attending the workouts," Russini wrote on her X account.

Tagovailoa had previously missed some OTA time amid "preliminary talks" with the Dolphins on a new deal, according to Fowler.

"They have had contract talks, preliminary talks. I'm told that the Dolphins have made at least one contract offer but we know how these things go; the offer apparently hasn't been good enough or he'd probably be there full time. So, the market is pretty set. We saw [Detroit Lions quarterback] Jared Goff, $50-plus million a year, that's going to apply to Tua and [Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback] Trevor Lawrence," Fowler said on SportsCenter via Bleacher Report (h/t David Furones of the Sun Sentinel).

Tagovailoa threw for a career-best 4,624 yards -- leading all NFL players -- and 29 touchdowns, as well as leading the Dolphins to an 11-6 record, during the 2023 regular season. The former Alabama standout previously led all NFL players in passer rating (105.5) during the 2022 season.
