NASA has issued an alert for a stadium-sized asteroid, 2024 ON, set to make a close approach to Earth on Tuesday. Measuring 290 meters across, the asteroid will come within 1 million km of Earth.
While the asteroid poses no risk on its current trajectory, it is being closely monitored by the Virtual Telescope Project. Additionally, a smaller asteroid, 2024 PT5, will become a temporary "mini moon" as it enters Earth's orbit from September 29 to November 25.
Skygazers can also look forward to a rare partial lunar eclipse coinciding with a supermoon full Moon on the same day as 2024 ON's closest approach.
